about the cycling areaMountain bike holidays - About the area

Situated at 820 metres (2700 ft) above sea-level, Ellmau is a typical Austrian village, with a population of only 2660. To the north is the Wilder Kaiser mountain range and to the south the Hartkaiser, which is part of the huge winter ski area known as the Skiwelt.

By car it is only between one and one and a half hours from Innsbruck, Salzburg or Munich airports.

The Wilder Kaiser extends 14kms east - west. If you are able to take a moment away from staring in front of you whilst on the bike, there is some great wildlife to be seen, including mountain goats, deer and marmots. There are also plenty of mountain huts where we can stop to get a bite to eat and a well earned drink.

To the south-east are the Kitzbüheler alps, where we have our mountain hut. The Kitzbüheler alps are famous for the Hahnenkamm World Cup downhill ski race. One of the tours that we can make, takes you down the opposite side of this mountain.

First mountain biking holiday to Austria and what a visit, thanks for looking after us so well.
